Originally founded as the Village of Mill Point Launch in 1849, the members of the community adopted its first Village Charter and became the Village of Spring Lake in 1869. Although the community’s original ties to the lumber industry have long passed, the Village serves as a great place to live and continues to play a role in the northwest Ottawa County’s tourism industry. The community began as a wonderful place to live, work and play and that tradition continues today. Our community, which lies upriver from Lake Michigan, spans 1.1 sq. miles, and has a population of 2,514.

We hope that this web site will provide residents, visitors and businesses with valuable information about the community. Check back with us periodically for up-to-date information about topics being discussed by the Village Council and the various boards and commission, issues affecting the community, events that are occurring within the community and a guide to our menu of public services.

If You Have a Sewer Back-up…

If you experience an overflow or back up of a sewage disposal system, first please contact the Village of Spring Lake Department of Public Works to check the Village’s lines before calling a private plumbing firm. Call Doug Whitley, DPW Supervisor, at 842-1393 if during business hours. Call the non-emergency 911 phone number at 1800-249-0911 if during the weekend or after 4 PM.

If you have back flow damage, you must file a written claim with the Village of Spring Lake, within 45 days after the back up or overflow was discovered. Notice should be mailed to the Village Clerk's office at 102 W. Savidge Street, Spring Lake, MI 49456. Failure to provide the required notice will automatically prevent recovery of damages.
